Write Tribe has a real talented bunch of people. Apart from the fact that every one is a blogger, we have chefs, artists, tarot card readers, published authors, avid gardeners, skilled yoga practitioners…..You get the idea. Today, we’re introducing a new feature on Write Tribe – Write Tribe creates – encouraging members to share about their other creative pursuits. When we noticed that Modern Gypsy has created a course on the fundamentals of tarot, it was only natural that we ask her to share. So here she is telling us all about using the tarot as a mirror to your heart.
Going forward you can expect sharing from other members too.
Using The Tarot As A Mirror To Your Heart
The morning light streams in through the window. I take a sip of my strong, hot, black coffee and shuffle my deck of tarot cards. I pull out a card, flip it over, pick up my pen and start writing. Drawing inspiration from the card, I reflect on my life, the lessons I need to remember – a flash of something I read a while back rises afresh in my memory, its importance finally clicking into place.
This early morning ritual before the house awakens is what grounds me during the crazy day that follows. Once I get into office, it’s 8 hours (sometimes more) of non-stop editing, as one report after the next piles up in my inbox. When things get too stressful, I can take a deep breath, think back to the morning’s inspiration, and then soldier on through the day.
This is one aspect of the tarot most people don’t know or understand. They think of the tarot as fortune telling, or as something that’s silly or just for fun. What they don’t realize is that tarot can be used for self-reflection, personal growth, and as a source of inspiration when things are hard.
As I’ve shared some of my experiences and thoughts about the cards on my blog over the year, I’ve had a lot of people express interest in using the tarot in this way. Not to find out what’s next, but to find themselves reflected back, so they can better understand their impulses and emotions and use that as a way to understand themselves better.
This kind of practice requires you to understand the basics of the tarot – it’s structure, the elements that each suit is connected to, the archetypical patterns expressed in the cards. It’s also very helpful to know how to read the card to glean its basic, core meaning so that you can understand the deeper message that will likely be unique to you. From here, you can build on your knowledge further if you wish, adding in different systems and ways to read the card.
After hearing so many people saying they didn’t know the tarot could be used for self-reflection, that they wished they could learn it too, I decided to create the Tarot Fundamentals ecourse. It covers all the basics, including a brief history of the cards, the systems of the tarot, the best tarot decks for beginners {because there are tons of tarot decks out there and it can get really difficult to choose a deck that’s easy to understand}, how the tarot works, and going into the structure of the tarot and how to start reading the cards easily. There are also a number of bonus articles and additional bonus resources, including a keyword cheat sheet for each of the 78 cards.
If all you want to do is to use the tarot as a mirror to yourself, the Tarot Fundamentals course gives you all the tools you need to do just that. If you wish to go deeper into the tarot, the Tarot Fundamentals course gives you a solid foundation from which to explore deeper. No matter what you want to do with the tarot, if you are a beginner – or even curious – this e-course will give you a very solid foundation and understanding of the tarot. I do hope you’ll join me in class!
Don’t forget to check out the course now.
Looking forward to this series. All the best Shinjini. I have a real interest in tarot – had it for many years. I read intuitively and have found some fascinating insights to my life through the tarot. My new fascination is with Lenormand.

This is interesting! I wasn’t aware that tarot card reading could be used for self-reflection. I’m sure the course must be quite interesting too. There is a dearth of knowledge in these areas.
Congratulations on the brand new feature, Corinne! Eagerly watching out for some inspiration in the weeks to come. Shinjini, after reading your post, I am intrigued to know how Tarot can be useful to me for self-reflection. I am piqued now…must find out more.

Thank you so much, Shalini! 🙂
A tarrot as the mirror, sounds very interesting! Present is the only moment one can be and reflections draw us to this very present moment. The course would be a great tool to empower self, fortify the positivity deep within.
Wishing you all the best with the e course Shinjini.
That’s true, Anagha! It’s all about knowing what’s happening in the moment, as that determines what happens in the future! Thanks so much for your best wishes.
