Every normal person has been hurt one way or another at least more than once in his life. What distinguishes the winner from the rest is his ability to turn his pain into poetry, his sob story into a sweet song. Turn your anguish into art. It may not be that simple, but you will love the journey and the result.
Turn Your Anguish into Art
I find that I write more heartfelt, more powerful, and more creative stories when my heart is bleeding, so to speak. When emotions are raw, when I feel vulnerable, and when I feel like there’s nothing to lose or at stake anymore, is when I am at my most honest, most authentic self. Thus it is when I write the best kinds of stories; stories that tug at my readers’ heart strings.
They make me feel alive. I may feel weak and helpless, but my words become powerful and it touches many. Being able to reveal my scars makes me one with others. It makes me able to reach out more. I can empathize with them, and they can empathize with me.
There is a beautiful connection between two people who can be vulnerable with each other, and that is what anguish does into your art. You are more understood and felt when you share it.
A lot of people hate Taylor Swift. They say she is vindictive, petty, and self-centered. But how many people can say that their heartbreaks were turned into million dollars’ worth of music albums? How many can say that their bitterness brought them fame and immortalized their name and their art? Not many.
When I was hurting, I would always write down how I was feeling. It was during that time that I landed my first writing gig. Expressing how I felt finally turned not only into art but cash as well. Profit came secondary and as a bonus. But I was glad it did. My cries were turned into cash.
Make it your purpose
Critics can say all they want, but your story is something someone needs to hear—or read. Your wounds will be wonderful stories, and your scars will be like stars to guide those who are also walking in the dark.
Write not only to make yourself feel better, but write so that others can learn from your lessons. Make writing about your failure be an inspiration to many who are in the verge of giving up or who has tasted failure for the first time. Be the unwavering source of hope for those who are shaken.
Make it your purpose to be a living testimony that those who persevere will one day get their prize.
Writing down how you feel can help unburden your heart. Unload your excess baggage so you can travel light, better, and easier in this life journey.
When you turn your anguish into art, you remove from yourself the unnecessary burdens that can slow you down or stop you from becoming the person you were born to be; from living the full life God intended you to have.
Turn your anguish into art. Write your heart out. Paint your painful experience into canvas. Compose a song that will heal the sadness in your heart away. Make your story something the world can find inspiration from. Stop wallowing in your heartache. You won’t benefit from it and no one can too. As Carrie Fisher said, “Take your broken heart, make it into art.”
